Al P. Nelson 2006 Winners
A poignant reminiscence about a family keepsakea Danish blue and white dinner platehas won the $75 first place award for Susan Damgard O'Brien of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Other prize winners were Grace Houston of Kenosha, Wisconsin who won the $50 second place prize for a well-researched historical article on "Old Abe," the famed Civil War mascot of Wisconsin's Eighth Regiment.
Patricia Weisberg of Milwaukee, Wisconsin took the $25 third prize for an insightful feature on Wisconsin's Christopher Latham Sholes, inventor of the typewriter and an editor, legislator and postmaster.
Honorable mention certificates were awarded to Julie Eger of Wautoma and Joan Rozanski of Milwaukee. This year's Feature Writing judge was Jack Pearson of Brookfield, a columnist for southeastern Wisconsin's 50 Plus newsmagazine and former editor of Exclusively Yours. Bill Nelson of Brookfield, Wisconsin chaired the contest. |
