Wilderness Press is always looking for new authors with exciting ideas and a passion for the outdoors. Most of our titles are destination guidebooks for hiking, backpacking, kayaking, and other self-propelled outdoor activities, but we also publish numerous outdoor-related how-to guides. While our general focus is on the Western States-from the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific-we are also seeking proposals for destinations across North America. We do not publish fiction, poetry, or memoirs."Pays advance against royalties.

Dragon, Knights and Angels (Pays $5 - $10)

In 1999, Rebecca Shelley founded the Dragons, Knights, & Angels (DKA) magazine on the idea that the power of God is the greatest magic of all, and that idea remains at the core of our mission. We look for stories and poems that build up the reader and give them opportunity to be better for having read them. Stories and poems will be examined first on their merit as works of sci-fi / fantasy / poetry. Works submitted to DKA will also be examined as to how well they entertain, uplift, and enlighten. "Poetry should have either a speculative or a religious element. We are particularly interested in poems that have both. We generally do not want poems that have no speculative element. We sometimes accept reprints, although we prefer them to not be recent reprints and we tend to only accept reprints if they are exceptional in quality and fit.
Query (selena@dkamagazine) regarding anything that is not fiction or poetry. You MUST follow our formatting guidelines and submissions process.

The Imperfect Parent, PAY: $5 - $50

The main focus of The Imperfect Parent is to provide a world view from a parent's perspective. Our main criteria are that the writing makes people think, laugh, or both. Our objective is to get parents to think about social, political, and parenting methods in a way that informs and educates on issues that affect our children and us, as parents. Anecdotal stories are fine, but they need to have a point.

Minnesota Parent

Minnesota Parent seeks to include new voices in our magazine. We'd love to hear yours! We suggest you obtain a copy of the magazine to become familiar with our style, sections and point of view. It's probably easy to see that we think families are the most important part of our social structure and that we consider parenting to be the most rewarding, exciting, hectic, fun, amazing time that anyone will have in their lives. We believe in supporting families and their children and that's our point of view. Our editorial coverage focuses on providing parents in our state with the stuff they need to raise great kids. We are happy to respond to your queries by mail, e-mail, or fax. New writers to the magazine should always include clips or links to web pages. Articles submitted by previously unpublished writers or writers who have not written for Minnesota Parent are always on speculation. We use Chicago Manual of Style (AP for numbers) and clean, deadline driven copy is sacrosanct! ParentPages is a great place for new writers to the magazine to start. This is a section at the front of the magazine that looks at local people, places, items of interest, short reviews, legislative items of interest and other places and things of interest to families."

Chicken Soup for the Menopausal Soul (Pays $200)

We are now collecting stories for Chicken Soup for the Menopausal Soul, due to be published in August 2007. That may seem a long time out, but the publisher requires that all stories be selected, edited, and submitted at least six months from the scheduled publication date. We need your stories by November 1, 2006, but the sooner you can get them to us, the better.
Types of Stories Needed
We are looking for primarily light-hearted, humorous stories. Yes, they do exist! They can be about your own menopausal experiences, or those that you've so happily "shared" with your husband(s), significant other(s), kids, bosses, employees, or even animals. And they can be written by men! If your story is also uplifting, inspirational or educational, in addition to being funny, so much the better. We currently are developing chapter titles that will provide you with more ideas and guidance on what types of stories will have the best chance of being selected, so be sure to check back." http://www.fishsoul.com/menopausal_soul.htm
